Screen cap of UFC 223 Embedded: Vlog Series – Episode 5, where Conor McGregor attacks a bus containing of fighters. This results in a few fighters being pulled out of the event due to injuries.
Pre-fight injuries are becoming an epidemic in the UFC. There has not been a single event held in 2018 that has gone as originally planned. Many fighters will get injured during training or have weight cutting issues that lead to their fight being rescheduled, being replaced by another fighter, or even have the fight scrapped.
This is a lost to everyone involved. Fights are planned and announced weeks or even months ahead of time to attract fans and hype them up. Then, suddenly a fighter gets injured and is unable to fight. If a fighter cannot fight, then they do not get paid. Also, the fans will lose interest as they may not like the replacement fighter. There may not even be a fighter that is ready to fill in their spot.
